At Etowah Mounds visitors experience Native American creations dating back from 1000 A.D.to 1550 A.D. The site protects the village, mounds, plaza, borrow pits and defensive ditch. The mound run alongside the Etowah river which is breathtaking. In the museum visitors will see how natives decorated themselves wit: shell leads, paint, hairdos, feather and sand copper pigments. Most objects are made of wood, sea shell sand stone. The mounds are also home to a nature trail that runs alongside the river. The trail points out how Native Americans used native trees and food for medicine. There’s a lot of walking so if walking is not on your list, this is not the place to go. Visitors looking for a slow paced walk enjoying all of natures’ beauty, this place is perfect for visitors of all ages.
