Dawsonville is located about 60 miles north of Atlanta in Dawson County in the foothills of the northeast Georgia mountains, edging Lake Lanier and accessing the Appalachian Trail. Right in downtown Dawsonville, this festival explores Dawson County’s history during the prohibition of running moonshine through the mountains as a way of life. Festival goers can visit an old moonshine and listen to stories from “Trippers” and “Reveneurs.” Also known as the birthplace of NASCAR, the streets are lined with vintage race cars and their drivers. On Saturday at 9 a.m., there will be a parade through downtown Dawsonville kicking the festival off for the year. Other entertainment will include music, dancers, kids games and rides. There will be exhibits, crafts and food available. All proceeds for the festival go to help the needy children in Dawson County through Kare for Kids, Inc.
