You don’t have to spend an entire day getting to your destination to go somewhere fun. Just a few hours’ drive from Atlanta, Tybee Island is a great spot for a family vacation. It is close enough to Savannah that you can go into town if you need a city fix, and it has gorgeous beaches where you can kick back. There are plenty of little restaurants, but you definitely can’t miss the Crab Shack with its gator pools and delicious seafood. If you need a coffee fix, hit up Tybean Art & Coffee Bar.

Panama City Beach is an easy jaunt from Atlanta, whether you choose to drive or fly. There are plenty of hotel options, both family-friendly and party central. There is a free shuttle ready to take you up and down the main strip, to the pier where all the action is, so you don’t have to worry about driving around after you party. Of course, you’ll have to all get air brushed t-shirts to commemorate your trip.  

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston is a beautiful town at any time of year, but the proliferation of bars and restaurants make it a fun spring break choice. It’s a walkable city where you can pop in and out of historic houses and then kick back at a cafe. The nightlife down by the pier is hearty enough to satisfy any college kid, and you won’t have far to walk home to your hotel afterwards. There are also dolphin tours and other sightseeing opportunities for the adventurous coeds.

Nashville, Tennessee

Not everyone wants to head to the beach. If your college kid is a fan of live music, then Nashville is a great choice for a spring break. You can check out the Bluebird to catch some upcoming singer-songwriters, or you can head to the Grand Ol’ Opry for more established acts. It seems like bands are playing all over town, so you won’t lack options for a fun night out. If you need a sugary indulgence, head to the Pancake Pantry. 

Helen, Georgia

If you would really like to go to Germany, but you can’t afford the airfare, then consider making the drive to Helen. This mountain town is all dressed up like a Bavarian village, and there are plenty of pretzels and beer to go around. You can hike through the gorgeous mountain paths or take a relaxing tube ride down the river. Just don’t miss out on trying local treats like fresh made fudge.
