Championship Rounds Podcast: 'This Will Be The Fight Of The Year"In this week’s Championship Rounds podcast Sean Thompson and Craig Carlos Valentino discuss the latest news in the world of boxing. This week the news includes a recap of the performances from last weekend’s fights featuring Terrence Crawford, Gary Russell Jr, and Gervonta Davis. Which of the three young and talented fighters impressed CR hosts CCV and ST the most with their performance? While the guys were impressed with all three fighters it was the youngest of the three in Davis who left the most lasting impression on CCV and ST. “I had a million different scenarios with how I saw the Davis and Liam Walsh fight going and Davis blasting him out in 3 rounds was not one of them,” said ST. “What he did Saturday night in front of a hostile crowd was simply incredible.” CCV expressed equal praise for what the 22 year old Davis did Saturday night although acknowledged Terrence Crawford impressed as well. “Terrence Crawford is like LeBron James. You can give him the MVP award all the time. It’s just expected he’s going to be great since he’s a great fighter,” said CCV. “What Davis did though was what impressed me the most.” This week the guys also look ahead to this Saturday’s huge welterweight title fight from across the pond in England where IBF champion Kell Brook takes on rising young star Errol Spence Jr. “This is the one fight I’ve been most looking forward to all year not named GGG and Canelo,” said an excited ST. “There is no way this could not be a great fight. Two very talented and hungry guys in their physical primes with something to prove on a huge stage. It doesn’t get much better than this.” As is usually the case on Championship Rounds when it comes to fight predictions ST and CCV tend to disagree. Saturday’s fight with Brook and Spence is no exception as the guys are in opposite corners with their picks. In their Quick Jabs segment Sean and Craig discuss a few Hall of Fame birthdays, Miguel Cotto finally getting back in the ring, and a rumored Adrian Broner and Mikey Garcia fight. The guys wrap up the show with their “Low Blows” for the week which has Craig calling out Shannon Briggs and Sean discussing the Sucker punch head around the boxing world.
