COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) — The College Park Skyhawks blew out the Grand Rapids Gold, 120-94 at the Gateway Center Arena Tuesday night in the Skyhawks regular-season home opener.

College Park was led by rookie forward A.J. Lawson with a career-high 22 points and 4-for-9 from three-point range. He also picked up three rebounds and two steals during his effort. Guard Skylar Mays contributed 23 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and four steals.

The Skyhawks took off early, picking up 33 and 32 points in the first and second quarters, respectively, landing a 65-46 lead by halftime. In the third quarter, College Park’s lead opened up to 28, and they were able to hold off Grand Rapids over the course of the rest of the game.

DaQuan Jeffries and Jalen Johnson, on assignment with the Hawks joined Mays in making their regular-season debuts with the Skyhawks on Tuesday night. Jeffries, just back from a 10-day contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, picked up 16 points, along with six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Johnson added nine points, four rebounds, and three assists before he had to take a seat with an ankle injury.

“Moving the ball the way we did tonight makes us really tough to beat,” said Skyhawks Head Coach Steve Gansey. “Nine turnovers as a team is the fewest we’ve had all year and I’m proud of how unselfishly we played.”

The Skyhawks are back on the road Friday night, heading to Greensboro to take on the Swarm at the Greensboro Coliseum Fieldhouse. Tip time is 7 pm, and fans can watch on NBAGLeague.com.
