ATLANTA, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) — If you’re looking for more places to eat in the Downtown Atlanta area, you’ll soon have 21 new options at Underground Atlanta. A new food hall allowing for multiple vendors is under construction.

On the surface, there’s not a lot of foot traffic at Underground Atlanta right now, and food options are limited. “There’s nothing to eat over here. It’s a food desert,” said Underground Atlanta Owner Shaneel Lalani, who bought the property and immediately made big renovation plans. “This opportunity came to me late last year that, if we would be willing to take a look to buy it, and it was a good opportunity for us,” he said.

Lalani recently took CW69’s Valencia Jones underground for a first hand look at workers paving the way for 21 new food stations. The 28,000 square foot hall will feature a variety of local and international cuisines. Chattahoochee Food Works Creator Robert Montwaid will curate the food hall. Lalani said there’s no timeline just yet on the multiphase project. “We are trying to make this property a walkable district where people feel safe,” he said. “We’re improving the security here, making a project where it’s welcoming for the general public to come over here and spend the whole entire day.”

Future Showbar and Restaurant and The Masquerade, a live music venue, have opened up at the Underground. Lalani says there’s more to come, and more details will be released in the near future.
