The organizers of four of Decatur’s signature festivals today announced their plans for “Festival Weekend 2021,” to be held October 1-3. The announcement signals the city’s return to a cherished community tradition following an extended festival off-season due to COVID-19.

The AJC Decatur Book Festival presented by Emory University, Decatur Arts Festival, Amplify Decatur Music Festival Presented by Lenz, and the Decatur Craft Beer Festival will share the weekend. The Decatur Wine Festival will be held in November, as is tradition.

The weekend’s schedule of events includes:

Decatur Book Festival: Saturday, October 2

After 15 years of hosting literary events over Labor Day Weekend, the AJC Decatur Book Festival presented by Emory University is making a permanent move to the first weekend of October. This year the book festival will host a one-day program with five author events at the First Baptist Church of Decatur on Saturday, October 2.

Decatur Arts Festival: Saturday, October 2, and Sunday, October 3

The Decatur Arts Festival will present more than 100 new and returning artists–from across the country and across town–on Saturday and Sunday, October 2 and 3, showcasing their creations within a dozen disciplines.

Amplify Decatur Music Festival Presented by Lenz: Friday, October 1, and Saturday, October 2

Presented by Lenz, Amplify will present national, regional, and local music acts at a free outdoor concert the night of Friday, October 1, and an all-day, ticketed festival on Saturday, October 2. Amplify will announce performers in mid-June.

The Decatur Craft Beer Festival: Saturday, October 2

The Decatur Craft Beer Festival will host live music in the Brick Store Pub beer garden with hard-to-find unique beer offerings on Saturday, October 2.

The Arts Festival, Amplify Decatur, and the Beer Festival would like to thank the Decatur Book Festival for sharing its dedicated weekend to create this special multi-festival event. Together, the four festivals would also like to offer gratitude and recognition to the City of Decatur for its years of guidance and support.

“Decatur has become America’s greatest festival town through many years of collaboration and an emphasis on promoting the city, its businesses, and charities, and of course the arts,” said Mathwon Howard, President of the Decatur Book Festival. “We’re proud to play a role in continuing this proud tradition during “Festival Weekend 2021.”

The four festivals are working closely with City of Decatur officials to create a safe environment for attendees. Specific COVID-19 protocols and safety measures will be announced in the coming months.
