ATLANTA, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) — Authorities say they are investigating how an SUV lost control and slammed into the emergency room at Piedmont Hospital, killing one person and injuring several others.

Atlanta Police say they responded to Piedmont Hospital’s Emergency Department on Peachtree Road Northwest just before 8 a.m.

Upon arrival at the scene, they say discovered a gray Mercedes Benz SUV had crashed through the emergency room entrance.

Officers say the 75-year-old driver had come to the hospital for an appointment, but lost control of her vehicle before striking another one in the parking lot.

They said the SUV then entered the building and hit several people before it came to a stop. Police say one person was pronounced dead at the scene and four people were injured. They have not yet released the identity of the person killed. Authorities say the driver was not injured, and the crash is still under investigation.
