ATLANTA, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) – Atlanta Police investigators filed upgraded charges against 42-year-old Avery Goggans, the alleged driver of an ATV that struck APD officer Maximillian Brewer during the George Floyd protests on May 30, 2020.

Officer Brewer was seriously injured in the incident.

Goggans was initially charged with DUI Drugs and Alcohol and other traffic offenses including Serious Injury by Vehicle.  After additional investigation, charges against Goggans have been upgraded to include Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

Additional charges stem not only from the incident involving Officer Brewer but also Goggans’ alleged attempts to strike two other officers, at different intersections, prior to deliberately driving into Officer Brewer.

The suspect remains in the Fulton County Jail.
