PRESS RELEASE:

On June 7, 2020 at 4:40am, the Smyrna Police Department received an audible alarm from Nalley Lexus-2750 Cobb Parkway Smyrna, GA. 30080.  While investigating the audible alarm, officers discovered a door to the business that had been forced open.  Upon making this discovery, multiple suspects fled from inside of the closed business.  Simultaneously, while several suspects were fleeing on foot, the Smyrna officer observed a stolen grey Lexus SUV drive from the dealership.

The Smyrna Police patrol officer attempted to locate the stolen grey Lexus SUV which was travelling westbound on Spring Road at a high rate of speed, however, due to the speed of the Lexus SUV and the substantial head start the vehicle had on the Smyrna officer, the officer lost sight of the vehicle.

The Smyrna officer continued to drive westbound on Spring Road when the officer observed the stolen grey Lexus travelling northbound on Bell Drive.  The stolen Lexus SUV continued down Bell Drive at a high rate of speed where the driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a home on the corner of Bell Drive and Afton Way.

Inside of the vehicle were four occupants, three males and a female.  The male driver was able to escape out of the mangled vehicle leaving his passengers who sustained serious injuries and death.  The two male passengers were treated on scene and taken to Kennestone Hospital. The female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Keeping with the core values of the Smyrna Police Department’s commitment to transparency, Chief Joseph Bennett requested the Georgia State Patrol to come and investigate the accident portion of the incident.

The Smyrna Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit is investigating the burglary, theft by taking, criminal damage to property, and death of the female passenger.
