ATLANTA, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) —
ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Police Department arrested and charged two suspects in connection with a carjacking that took place at the H.E. Holmes Station on April 27 2019.
After a thorough investigation by MARTA Police detectives, Javonte Avery, 17, was located with the help of the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force on April 10 2020. Avery has been on the run since he was identified in May 2019. The second suspect, D’Shawn Garrison, 18, was also located and charged in the incident. Both Avery and Garrison are charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, carjacking, and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.
“I am proud of our detectives who never gave up on this case. The tenacity and dedication of these hardworking investigators helped bring two violent criminals to justice,” said MARTA Police Chief M. Scott Kreher.
A third suspect was initially wanted in connection with the crime. However, he was cleared by investigators. The case will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for criminal prosecution.
