MARIETTA, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) — Marietta police arrested Brayan Eduardo Rivas, also known as Brayan Segura, 15, charging him with Malice Murder, Aggravated Assault and Concealing Death, after finding murder victim, Janina Valenzuela, 14, in a creek behind 1805 Roswell Road.
Officers said they responded to a report of an aggravated assault that had already happened near Roswell Road on Wednesday night, April 8, around 8:20 p.m.
They said the case involves three juveniles, including two victims and a suspect, who reportedly had a knife.
The caller said he and his fourteen-year-old girlfriend were separated during the attack, according to officers.
Police said he also indicated he searched for her, but he couldn’t find her, and that she was missing for two hours before he called 911.
They said detectives searched the area, then they located and took Segura into custody early Thursday morning. They said they found Valenzuela’s body later that morning in the creek.
Valenzuela’s family and friends have expressed their grief on social media and shared a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for her funeral.
Police said Segura was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center and will be tried as an adult. At this time, there’s no word on a motive or what led to the attack.
