We took a data-driven look at the question, using Yelp to discover which eateries have been getting a significant uptick in attention this month.

To find out who made the list, we looked at Atlanta businesses on Yelp by category and counted how many reviews each received. Rather than compare them based on number of reviews alone, we calculated a percentage increase in reviews over the past month, and tracked businesses that consistently increase their volume of reviews to identify statistically significant outliers compared to past performance.

The James Room

Open since 2019, this cafe, cocktail bar and breakfast and brunch spot is trending compared to other businesses categorized as “Breakfast & Brunch” on Yelp.

Citywide, breakfast and brunch spots saw a median 2 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, but The James Room saw a 73.3 percent increase, while maintaining its 3.5-star rating from a month ago to today.

Located at 661 Auburn Ave. NE, Suite #280 in Old Fourth Ward, The James Room offers craft cocktails, sandwiches, salads and more.

Whether or not you’ve been hearing buzz about Downtown’s Blackbird, the New American and French spot is a hot topic according to Yelp review data.

While businesses categorized as “American (New)” on Yelp saw a median 2 percent increase in new reviews over the past month, Blackbird bagged an 86.7 percent increase in new reviews within that timeframe, maintaining a strong 4.5-star rating. It significantly outperformed the previous month by gaining 1.9 times more reviews than expected based on its past performance.

Open at 393 Marietta St. NW, Blackbird offers omelettes, fried green tomatoes, chicken and waffles and more.

 Agavero Cantina – Atlanta

Blandtown’s Agavero Cantina – Atlanta is the city’s buzziest seafood spot by the numbers.

The well-established Mexican spot, which offers seafood and more, opened at 1133 Huff Road NW, Suite C, in 2015. It increased its new review count by 6.4 percent over the past month, an outlier when compared to the median new review count of 2 percent for the Yelp category “Seafood.”
