ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation states there were three police shootings within 24 hours that left two men dead.
The bureau tweeted that Monroe police fatally shot 63-year-old Mahlon Edward Summerour, the State Patrol killed 27-year-old Kenneth Martin Anderson and Richland police exchanged gunfire with 30-year-old Davion Omar Watson during a car chase.
Watson suffered injuries that weren’t life-threatening, and charges against him are pending.
The bureau says Summerour was shot after he pointed a weapon at an officer. Authorities later determined the weapon was a replica Thompson submachine gun.
It says Anderson was shot during a traffic stop after he was able to draw a handgun while handcuffed behind his back and shoot a trooper. The bullet hit the trooper’s ballistic vest; he was treated and released from a hospital.
