ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. (AP) — The U.S. Air Force says it wants to create 1,200 new jobs within the next year at its sprawling base in Warner Robins.
The hiring initiative was announced Wednesday at Robins Air Force Base, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Macon.
Brig. Gen. John Kubinec says the base needs more workers at its Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, which is seeing its “most consequential year for new workload growth in over a decade.”
WMAZ-TV reports the base is looking to hire new engineers, mechanics and computer scientists. The Air Logistics Complex now employs about 7,200 personnel who perform maintenance and repairs on aircraft and their components.
Kubinec thanked Congress for giving the base authority to hire new workers directly. He said that will allow hiring to move more swiftly.
