DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Police say one person has been shot after a gunman opened fire outside day care in Decatur.

DeKalb County Police spokeswoman Shiera Campbell told news outlets the victim ran to the parking lot of Candy Cane Learning Center after being shot in the arm Wednesday morning. The shooting caused a lockdown at the daycare and nearby Columbia High School but both facilities are now open.

Campbell says the victim was riding in a vehicle when another person pulled up behind it. Both exchanged words before one shot was fired into the vehicle carrying the victim.

Campbell says the shooter returned to their vehicle and sped off.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. The victim’s identity has not been released.
