New York Mets minor leaguer Tim Tebow has suffered a broken hamate bone in his right hand. The organization says Tebow will have surgery on Tuesday and is expected to miss six to eight weeks. Mets assistant general manager John Ricco says Tebow’s season is “effectively over.” Playing in AA Ball this year, Tebow is batting .273 with six home runs and 36 RBIs. He also played in the Eastern League All-Star Game earlier this month. On the other hand, Tebow has racked up a team-high 103 strikeouts in 83 games this season. Overall, the Mets say it’s been a “positive” season for the former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL quarterback.
