STARR, S.C. (AP) — Divers have recovered the body of a 24-year-old man who disappeared in Lake Hartwell in northeast Georgia/Northwest South Carolina.

Anderson County Emergency Management Director David Baker told news outlets the body was found shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday in the water near Starr.

The man’s name has not been released. Coroner Greg Shore was meeting with the victim’s family.

Baker said the body was found in about 20 feet (6 meters) of water. Authorities said the victim and a friend were swimming across a cove near a recreation area when the victim went under water shortly before 9 p.m. Monday.

Shore said there were no obvious signs of injury on the body.

Sheriff’s deputies and the Anderson Technical Rescue Team responded to the lake.
