“Our baby has grown up, Mama”. Yep…while Volkswagen still sells the former 10” shorter Tiguan body style for around $2,600 less, their new-for-‘18 “Mama-Bear-sized” Tiguan is all new….and along with it’s new, longer body, the ’18 Tiguan now has room for three-row seating.
Volkswagen now offers just about any sized vehicle that you may need. And now their all-new Tiguan can seat seven and eat at the Big People’s table!
The ’18 Tiguan comes with a 184 HP turbo four-cylinder mated to an 8-speed auto. It’s the only power combination offered…..and the only one really needed.
Acceleration is brisk, and your regular-gas economy is EPA rated at 22 city and 27 Hwy….altho’ we commuted for a week and recorded an even 28 MPG.
And speaking of MPG’s, VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive is rated at the same 27 Hwy as their 2-wheel drive version…..and costs only $1,300 more.
Pricing is pretty much wherever you want it to be…..depending entirely upon how you load it up. Prices start in the mid $20’s….and can run up close to $40,000 if you check absolutely everything on the option list. Our roughly 30K test SE version came with 17” alloys, heated front seating, VW’s imitation leather ventilated V-Tex seating, reclining second-row seating plus third-row seats, a huge, panoramic moonroof, roof-rails, smart phone integration, keyless entry and push-button start.
That’s a pretty nicely equipped 7-seater for exactly five-thousand under the average price of today’s new vehicle.
Something that Volkswagen is doing that I’d like to see others copy is their transferable warranty. Should you sell your ’18 Tiguan before the standard six-year / 72,000 limited warranty is up, whatever coverage is remaining is transferable to the second owner.
