When eating out, it’s hard to stay healthy. It’s extra hard when you are trying to grab something for breakfast, as many restaurants maximize portability over health. But if you’re watching your eating habits and are willing to look at little, Atlanta has a number of healthy breakfast options available. From those watching their calories or carbs to folks looking for gluten free or organic options, these five restaurants will make sure you get the most important meal of the day, without busting your diet.

Buttermilk Kitchen
4225 Roswell Road
Atlanta, GA 30342
(678) 732-3274

Buttermilk Kitchen was conceived by chef Suzanne Vizethann as a place where everything would be made from scratch with a preference toward sustainable local ingredients. While their menu isn’t all diet friendly, there is a nice selection of options for those looking for healthier fare. Popular healthy menu items include their Lox Plate, with beet-cured salmon and a Jerusalem bagel, and their “Eggs Your Way” platter, which gives a choice of side items including organic berries and chicken sausage.

Egg Harbor Cafe
1820 Peachtree Road N.W.
Atlanta, GA 30309
(470) 225-1901

With a name like “Egg Harbor”, it’s a good bet that breakfast is the focus. While Egg Harbor Cafe also serves lunch, it is in their gourmet breakfasts that they truly shine. While there are a number of healthy options on Egg Harbor Cafe’s menu, a major draw for health conscious diners with gluten sensitivity is their gluten free menu. Not content to toss one or two gluten free options out there, Egg Harbor Cafe offers more than a dozen gluten free breakfasts, including gluten free cinnamon rolls and a quinoa breakfast bowl.

Sean’s Harvest Market
500 Amsterdam Ave. N.E.
Atlanta, GA 30306
(404) 565-6698

While billed primarily as a sandwich bar, Sean’s Harvest Market has become a destination for health-conscious breakfast diners as well. Their menu changes regularly, better to focus on seasonal and fresh ingredients. But it is their large selection of smoothies that has made them stand out among people who want a quick pick me up breakfast. With a variety of fruits, vegetables, and healthy add-ons like yogurt and whey protein, Sean’s Harvest Market is sure to have a smoothie that will fit your taste buds.

Alon’s Bakery
1394 North Highland Ave.
Atlanta, GA 30306
(404) 872-6000

A bakery isn’t usually the place you’d think to go for healthy breakfast options and there are plenty of menu items at Alon’s Bakery that should be reserved for splurge days. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t items on the menu for the healthy eater. Among Alon’s healthier breakfast items is a farmhouse frittata with a number of vegetable choices, wood smoked turkey bacon, house ground turkey sausage, and a hand-cubed fruit salad.
