Phil Simms, NFL analyst for the NFL on CBS, joined The Morning Show with John and Hugh on Wednesday to talk about the Falcons and Week 8 of the NFL season. He says the Falcons really caught fire at the end of last year, and that’s when you want to get hot. He sees lots of talent, the fastest defense in the NFL; but the game slowed down a little bit.

As far as what he sees, Simms says: “You can’t give the football enough to Devonta Freeman. He’s so explosive, sets up the game and gives it a great pace.”

With the addition of Steve Sarkisian, Simms says you’ve got to give it time to adjust when it comes to a new offensive coordinator. You can’t go into it thinking you’re going to replicate the same results as last season.

In regard to the New York Jets, Simms says the “offensive line is solid, but not great.” Quarterback “Josh McCown has done a really nice job; being careful with the football and not afraid to throw it down the field. Defensively, the two rookie safeties are good. They remind you of Atlanta safeties.”

The defensive line is capable of disrupting the game. Simms does make mention of their defense blowing assignments in the midst of playing well, but has given every team their best effort. Atlanta is clearly the better team but they have to hang in there.
