By Jimmy Vance

Alexis Guerreros and Christian Polanco host a popular soccer podcast from New York City called The Cooligans. The duo is in Atlanta and happened to be inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium for Atlanta United’s 3-0 victory over Philadelphia Union.

The Cooligans made an appearance on The Morning Show with John Fricke and Hugh Douglas, but beforehand they spent some time with Jimmy Vance.

Highlights from the conversation:

  • Guerreros said he was “still awestruck” by the sheer numbers of supporters at a Wednesday night game. And even more impressed with how many people participated in the songs and chants, particularly the Viking Clap.
  • Guerreros mentioned how amazing the feat of packing 70,425 supporters into Mercedes-Benz Stadium truly was.
  • Expectations on the success of Atlanta United were low outside Atlanta. Guerreros said he thought Atlanta “would have to ship in fans” when the team was announced. He admitted, in hindsight, he was amazingly wrong.
  • Polanco commented on the timeline of success; “the fact that it’s happened so quickly.”
