Early Tuesday morning a pedestrian was hit and killed by two vehicles when walking in the HOV lane on Interstate 75/85 South at 10th Street.
“They found a male lying in the street and two vehicles that struck the male stayed at the scene and the investigation is ongoing now with our hit-and-run unit,” Lt. Anthony Jackson said.
Authorities are trying to determine more about the victim and why that person was walking on Atlanta’s busiest interstate in the wee hours of the morning. At this point, it’s unclear whether both drivers who hit the pedestrian will face any charges.
In a separate incident Tuesday morning, a runner was struck by a Dekalb police cruiser, sending both to the hospital in critical condition.
According to authorities, the accident occurred on Chamblee Tucker Road at Brown Road around 7:30 a.m. as the officer was in route to another call.
“A vehicle made a left turn in front of the officer, the officer took an evasive maneuver to avoid that vehicle and struck a predestining the cross walk,” said DeKalb County Police Chief James Conroy.
The officers patrol vehicle ended up crashed into the side of a Dekalb county home.
Investigators are working to determine how the accident occurred.
The officier has since been upgraded to stable condition, however, the woman is still listed in critical condition.
WAOK will have the latest updates in this developing story.
