There are conflicting reports swarming around Atlanta and the Hawks organization Monday. Even though there’s some differing language, both story lines revolve around forward Paul Millsap opting out of his contract.

Shams Charania, of Yahoo! Sports, has reported that Millsap has opted out of his contract.

Chris Vivlamore, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, has stated that even though the Hawks have been informed Millsap will opt out, it won’t happen until June 23.

While it seems like semantics at this point, that buffer between now and June 23 could still be important, especially, as Vivlamore states, if Millsap somehow were to get injured over the next 33 days.

Brace yourself, Atlanta, the Hawks may find out what it’s like to be without Millsap next season as it seems almost assuredly so he’ll test the free-agent waters. Atlanta, since Millsap holds Bird Rights, can offer the forward more money than anyone else in the NBA. There might be other teams, however, that can offer Millsap other incentives like super team creation or title hopes.

We’ll soon see in which direction Millsap goes. The Hawks have made it clear they fully intent to make a huge attempt to re-sign him.
