Just because it’s summer and everyone’s thinking about baseball and most kids aren’t even on a college campus right now, that doesn’t mean we can’t set our sights on the 2017 college football season. Not only should we looking ahead, we should be studying. Alabama and Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic is right around the corner.

On the defensive side of the football, both Chuckery and McMichael have the same list.

  1. Florida State

McMichael: “[FSU] has the best defensive player in the country in [safety] Derwin James.”
Chuckery: “Florida State might have the best collection of defensive personnel in the nation.”

  2. Clemson

McMichael: “That front seven is still nasty.”
Chuckery: “I’m not sure people realize how good and how deep Clemson has been the last few years. They’ve recruited the daylights out of defensive linemen.”

  3. Miami

McMichael: “Remember last year when they had all those young linebackers? They’re all back. They’re like old-school Miami linebackers, they’ll run and hit people in the face.”
Chuckery: “Those kids got a lot of opportunity last year. I think their offense will be challenged and the defense will have to lead the way.”

When is comes to ACC teams on offense, there was some argument.

Chuckery’s Top 3 Offenses

  1. Florida State

Chuckery: “I don’t know how you don’t have Florida State No. 1 in both.”

  2. Louisville

Chuckery: “No matter what Lamar Jackson did at the end of the year, he was still a 51-touchdown quarterback that could do so many thing on his own to make you a great offense.”

  3. N.C. State

Chuckery: “The only reason I’m taking N.C. State over Clemson is just the more established quarterback. … Finley’s a 3,000-plus-yard quarterback and their offensive line should get better this year.”

McMichael’s Top 3 Offenses

  1. Florida State

McMichael: “The one thing we learned about [Deondre] Francois is he’s tough as nails. The kid took a beating last year.”

  2. Louisville

McMichael: “They lost a lot of weapons, but they still have Lamar Jackson. The O-line has to protect him.”

  3. Clemson

McMichael: “I think this kid [Kelly] Bryant might be the guy.”
