DERRICK BOAZMAN Today on Too Much Truth, Derrick spoke with Spelman students. Activist Mary Pat Hector and sophomore classmates discussed the gentrification project that is going to take place in the West End and it’s impact on the AUC (Atlanta University Center) living structure. Gentrification is a general term for the arrival of wealthier people in an existing urban district, a related increase in rents and property values, and changes in the district’s character and culture. The term is often used negatively, suggesting the displacement of poor communities by rich outsiders. Boazman asked important questions and received passionate responses from these two ladies as to why they are not supporting this idea and even protesting that it takes place in the heart of Atlanta.
