Just a few weeks till Pitcher and Catchers report and closer to home, the Atlanta Braves are preparing for their last season at Turner Field. Last week the Braves 2016 Promotional Schedule was released and credit to the Marketing Department. They do a good job with off-field activities like gate giveaways, concerts and “thank you” nights (Military, Fire, Law Enforcement, etc).
Aside from the big events like Opening Day, Concerts, Bark in the Park and Bobbleheads, here are a few less talked about theme nights you should put in on your Braves calendar.
May 6th – Girls Night Out. For the ladies, this is an AWESOME opportunity to take your girls to a game with a good ticket deal that usually includes a pre-game party and a few free drinks. For the guys, this is even better. Offer to be the DD! You get credit for allowing her to have a big night out without her worrying about driving PLUS you get to watch a Braves game. Everybody wins.
May 25th – Father Daughter Day. Call this the “new dad” in me coming out, but this is a great memory maker evening. The package comes with tickets, a shirt and the chance to walk the Warning Track before the game (Instagram Moment!). Its sad how sappy I’ve become about stuff like this. Stupid fatherhood.
July 1st and July 25th – Star Wars and Zombie Night. Something for the Storm Troopers and Walkers! For Star Wars Night, the Braves hire character impersonators to roam the ball park and take pictures (the 7 foot Chewbacca is a sight to see). On Zombie Night, you can get made up to look dead and some of the fans go all out and it gets a little creepy. In the past, some of The Walking Dead stars have shown up to participate.
July 29th – Alumni Weekend and Georgia Southern Night. Alumni weekend is a must for a big time Braves fan. Get there early to get autographs from Braves Alumni and take pictures. I’ve seen fans show up 3-4 hours early just to get a good spot in line. The highlight of the weekend is always the Alumni Softball Game. Former Braves Stars try to show off without pulling anything (and usually fail).
With the success of the Georgia Southern Football program and the big alumni base in the Metro, Friday Night the Eagles are taking over Turner Field. Details about what that package include (usually a discounted ticket and chance to participate in the pre-game on field parade) will be released as it gets closer. There are no specific UGA/GT or AU theme nights because, honestly, every weekend there are almost as many UGA hats in the stands as Braves hats.
Oct. 1st and Oct 2nd – Fan Appreciation Weekend. The final weekend of Braves Baseball at Turner Field. Look for a TON of gate giveaways and promotions all because they dont want to take anything to SunTrust Park. Fan Appreciation Weekend should be a fun way to turn out the lights at Turner Field.
Granted, all of these events are even better when the team is playing great baseball. With the new faces, this will be an interesting, but fun season. If nothing else, you still got me!
