Flowery Branch, GA – Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman has been named the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week for his performance in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Freeman had a career day against the Dallas Cowboys, rushing for 141 yards on 30 carries with three touchdowns to lift Atlanta to a 39-28 win at AT&T Stadium. The second-year running back from Florida State averaged 4.7 yards per carry and also added 52 yards on five receptions. Freeman’s 193 scrimmage yards are the most by any NFC player in a single game this season. Freeman’s three rushing touchdowns marked the first time a Falcon running back has rushed for three touchdowns since RB Michael Turner accomplished the feat in 2010. Additionally his 141 rushing yards were the most by an NFL player in Week 3 and the most by a Falcons running back since Turner rushed for 172 yards in Week 17 of the 2011 season.
The weekly FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week Awards are also a win for local communities. Along with the player awards, FedEx is making a $2,000 donation in each of the winning players’ names to the local American Red Cross chapters in Green Bay and Atlanta. The funding is used to help assist the American Red Cross in its efforts to provide disaster relief and health services to Americans nationwide.
