DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — A DeKalb County man has been sentenced to serve two consecutive life sentences plus five years in prison for the fatal shooting of his pregnant girlfriend.

The DeKalb County district attorney’s office says Carlo Simpson was sentenced to Monday in the February 2013 death of Shikhira Dunson. A jury on Friday found the 25-year-old guilty of felony murder, feticide, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.

Dunson had just turned 20 at the time of her death and was about 22 weeks pregnant.

Simpson and Dunson had a 2-year-old son who now lives with Dunson’s mother. The district attorney’s office says Johnee Dunson addressed the court during the sentencing hearing to talk about the loss of her daughter.
