It’s called Ferguson Politics 101 and WAOK talk show host Rashad Richey is taking it to Ferguson, Missouri. Richey, who hosts Real Talk With Rashad Richey, is a former political director and lead strategist for the Georgia Democratic Party. He is also a former political consultant. This weekend he’s traveling to Ferguson to train political candidates for city council and school board. According to Richey, “it’s to give the citizens of Ferguson an opportunity to have a government that truly reflects the diversity of their community.” Richey feels that such training, of present and potential politicans, is needed in the wake of the killing of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown at the hands of a white police officer. “There are virtually no officials nor police officers”, says Richey, “that look like the majority of the population in Ferguson.” He is conducting the training at the request of #Ferguson and will be traveling with members of #it’sbiggerthanyou from Atlanta.
I spoke to Richey about Ferguson Politics 101.
