Atlanta Falcons Offensive Tackle Jake Matthews has been named to the NFL’s All-Rookie Team.

Matthews, after being moved to left tackle because Sam Baker got hurt, performed well enough to still make the all-rookie team. This only proves that he is more versatile than even the Falcons knew. He could end up and tackle, guard or even possibly center. He would excel at any of those positions.

The Falcons are looking to the next great Matthews, in a long line of great Matthews, to be a workhorse foundation in the offensive line for maybe the next 15 years.

Matthews was the big topic of discussion at last year’s Training Camp, both here on 92-9 The Game AND on HBO’s Hard Knocks. It was apparent from the beginning of camp that he would make an impact.

And while the team fell short of it’s goal of making the playoffs, Matthews did not disappoint. If he continues to learn and becomes even better, he’ll be trading that All-Rookie Team honor for Pro Bowl honors for years to come.
