Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden has been named the next coach of the Washington Redskins.

On Thursday morning, the Washington Post was the first to report that the Redskins and Gruden were working toward a possible deal that would make him the new head coach in Washington. CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora confirmed the report.

La Canfora also reported that Jim Haslett would remain as the defensive coordinator and that former Washington tight ends coach Sean McVay would be promoted to the offensive coordinator job.

Despite Cincinnati’s early exit from the playoffs for the third straight season, Gruden emerged as one of the most popular head-coaching candidates in the NFL. Along with the Redskins, Gruden had drawn interest from the Vikings, Lions and Titans…
