TUSKEGEE, Ala.–Miles did the unthinkable. The Golden Bears dominated its rival Tuskegee, on its home field, for a 41-36 victory to claim the SIAC West Division Title at Cleve Abbott Stadium on Saturday Afternoon.
David Thomas threw a career-high five touchdown passes and 312 yards to propel the Golden Bears back into the SIAC Football Championship Game. The senior also rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown for a total of six touchdowns in the game. Miles, (6-3, 4-1 SIAC West), will face Albany State University in the SIAC Centennial Championship Game next Saturday evening, 7 p.m. at Lakewood Stadium. The two teams met in the first SIAC Football Championship game in 2011.
The defending SIAC Champions Tuskegee, (8-2, 4-1 SIAC West) made a furious comeback in the second half with 21 unanswered points on a trio of touchdowns by fullback Michael Thornton. The lead was cut to 34-27 until Lonnie Outlaw caught his second touchdown reception of the day to make the score 41-27. Freshman Hoderick Lowe led Tuskegee on the ground with 94 yards on 11 touches. Quarterback Rashad Burkett threw for 320 yards and a touchdown on 18-for-30 passing.
