MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Chances are, if you cringe when the alarm clock goes off in the morning, or if you sleep in extra late on the weekends when you don’t have to be up, you are not a morning person.

Don’t hit that snooze alarm again. You could be sleeping in on the secret to success. New research promises some eye-opening results that might just get you out of bed a little earlier.

With apologies to the night owls, the early risers have them beat in health and success.

The research from the University of Education in Germany concludes that the happier, healthier, more successful, and more accomplished people all start their day early.

Experts tell Forbes there are a few things that morning people do to set themselves up right for all their success. Some of those things include:

  • exercise
  • spending time in the morning laying out their schedule with specific goals for the day
  • eating a healthy breakfast,
  • maintain their mental health by focusing on positive thinking
  • tackling parts of their to-do list early in the day, crossing the big tasks off the list first.

But before everyone gets too down on night owls, experts tell Inc. Magazine that there are some benefits to staying up late. Night owls are apparently more creative and extroverted.

It’s true that our genetics determine if we are a morning or night person. But the good news is, if you want to become a morning person, the professor who conducted this research says, you can gradually change to become one.
