WASHINGTON – Atlanta clinched its first National League East championship since 2005 Sunday afternoon when the rival Washington Nationals lost 4-2 to the Marlins.
The Braves were in action, leading Chicago when the news came through at Wrigley Field. Atlanta held on to win that contest 5-2.
The only thing left for Fredi Gonzalez’s club to play for over the season’s final week is home field advantage. The Braves lead Major League Baseball with a 52-22 record at Turner Field. Their record away from home sits at 39-41.
After coming home from Chicago, the Braves finish the regular season with visits from the Brewers and Phillies, both out of playoff contention.
