Grambling State has fired head football coach Doug Williams after the Tigers lost the first two games of the season. Running backs coach George Ragsdale is taking over as interim head coach.

Grambling had a 1-10 record in 2012, including going 0-9 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The 58-year-old Williams led the Tigers to the Southwestern Athletic Conference title in 2011, his first year back on the job. His first stint as coach began in 1998.

Williams was a starting quarterback for the Tigers before moving on to the NFL where he was the Super Bowl MVP with Washington in 1988.
