NEWNAN, Ga. (AP) — A group of Georgia Democrats will be gathering in Newnan to select their next party leader, with fundraising and candidate recruitment expected to be key issues ahead of next year’s elections.

About 300 members of the party’s state committee will meet Saturday at 1 p.m. to choose from among three candidates from around the state. They are former House Minority Leader Dubose Porter of Dublin, former state Sen. Doug Stoner of Cobb County and Rockdale County Tax Commissioner RJ Hadley.

In June, Mike Berlon stepped down as state chair, citing personal issues. The attorney had been reprimanded by the State Bar of Georgia, sued by a client and was on the defensive after the party reported weak fundraising ahead of the 2014 statewide and congressional elections.
