Atlanta(WAOK)-  Atlanta Superintendent Erroll Davis spoke Tuesday at the  9th Annual Atlanta Public Schools State of the Schools held at the  Carter Center pointing out Atlanta Public Schools will follow the  Common Core Standards.  He told a group of educators and community business  leaders  the Common Core standards help to improve kids knowledge and helps them .  Davis also acknowledged the  graduation rate of  51 percent saying it was unacceptable. Davis  told the educators  it is  the school systems  goal to  reduce the number  of students who need remedial help once they’ve arrived at college.  Davis has been the Atlanta School Superintendent  since 2011 and has announced his retirement this year.  Davis was brought in  to lead the school system after  a cheating scandal involving educators who  illegally  boosted standardized test scores.    A search is in progress to find Davis’s replacement.
