The National Football League recently awarded compensatory draft picks for this upcoming draft to teams on and the Atlanta Falcons have received the maximum four choices for this upcoming draft, starting April 25th. Compensatory picks are rewarded based on the number of compensatory free agents a team loses in relation to free agents that are signed. If there is a deficit then an organization is eligible for the extra choices. The total picks now for the Falcons are 11. Atlanta now has draft choices at 30, 60, 92, 127, 133, 163, 198, 236, 243, 244, and 249.
With this new found wealth exactly in what direction will the “Dirty Birds” go? Atlanta with the addition of Steven Jackson and the change of heart by Tony Gonzalez the offense seems to be solidified; however the defense needs a great deal. With the release of John Abraham and Dunta Robinson along with the possible defection of Brent Grimes, this defense has a great deal of question marks. The Falcons are now being proactive in free agency as it has been rumored that Osi Umenyiora has visited Flowery Branch. Becoming active in free agency along with these 11 picks will be crucial to the shaping the defensive side of the ball for years to come.
