ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – Civil rights icon the Rev. Joseph Lowery is set to speak at an event at Clark Atlanta University.

Lowery is slated to deliver the keynote address Tuesday at the annual fall convocation at the school. Immediately following his speech Lowery plans to lead a voter registration march on the school’s campus.

Lowery, who was one of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s lieutenants in the civil rights movement, will turn 91 next month. He co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with King and others in 1957.

Clark Atlanta says Lowery’s legacy of service and fighter for freedom and equality continue through the Joseph E. Lowery Institute for Justice and Human Rights at the school.
