On yesterdays show we tackled the issue of ethnic identity. Should we be called African American, Black, Both, or just American? Today the poll yielded that 35% prefer to be called Black, 26% prefer to be called American, 24% prefer to be called African American, and 15% say that it doesn’t matter, Black and African American are interchangeable.
The topic makes us further question if categorizing ourselves has hurt us or helped us as a race? Calling ourselves African American instead of just American could be another form of separate but equal. If we just call ourselves American it could make everything automatically equal.
