ATHENS, Ga. (AP) – Police in Athens are offering a reward for information about a sniper using a high-powered BB gun to shoot at pedestrians and cars.
Athens-Clarke County police say the shooter injured a jogger and shattered the windows of two moving cars during a string of weekend shootings.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports that a man was driving his pickup Saturday morning when the driver of an oncoming car shot at his driver’s side window and shattered it. Police said a man jogging Sunday afternoon felt a pain in his thigh. He later realized a BB was embedded in his leg. Police Capt. Clarence Holeman said the gun is powerful enough that its BBs could penetrate an eye or a soft spot on a person’s head, causing serious injury or death.
