Austin Rivers’ step-back three at the buzzer silenced the Tar Heel faithful and handed ninth-ranked Duke a stunning come-from-behind 85-84 victory over fifth-ranked North Carolina.

The Tar Heels led by 10 with two minutes to play before Rivers led the Blue Devils on a 13-2 run to close out the game.  Rivers finished with 29 points, the most ever by a freshman in history of the storied rivalry.

Seth Curry and Ryan Kelly each added 15 points to help Duke match UNC at 20-and-4 overall, 7-and-2 in the ACC.

Harrison Barnes paced the Tar Heels with 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Tyler Zeller posted 23 points and 11 rebounds.

But it was Zeller who erred late; knocking an errant shot into his own basket, missing free throws down the stretch and giving Rivers room enough to hoist his improbable shot as time expired.
