On Powertalk with Lorraine Jacques-White, we took a deeper look into the mindset of the African-American republican. Our special guest was controversial republican Star Parker, the founder and president of CURE, the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, a 501(c)(3) non-profit think tank which promotes market based public policy to fight poverty. In addition, she has written several books including White Ghetto, Uncle Sam’s Plantation, and Pimps Whores and Welfare Brats.
Many people have battled with the issue of black people becoming republicans, and Star Parker, a former welfare recipient, gave us all the answers to why she joined the republican party. The conversation was intense as listeners called in to voice their disagreement with her choice to go against traditions.READ MORE: Man who fatally shot Ahmaud Arbery sentenced to life in prison for federal hate crimes
