Following Sunday’s 24-2 loss to the NY Giants we knew that there would be some personnel changes both player and coaches but I had no idea it would happen this quick.

Falcons head coach Mike Smith confirmed yesterday that the team’s defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder is leaving the team to take the same job as a member of Coach Gene Chizik’s staff at Auburn University.

VanGorder, a former head coach at Ga. Southern spent the last four seasons with Atlanta; he was an award winning defensive coordinator at Georgia during his 3 year stint with the Bulldogs and was also an assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Smith said that VanGorder has been an integral part of the team’s success over the last four years.
