Atlanta Falcons’ All-Pro Fullback and weekly Sports Kings Radio contributor Ovie Mughelli is out for the remainder of the season after yesterday’s announcement by the team that he was being placed on injured reserve after tearing the MCL in his right knee during Sunday’s 23-16 win over the Lions in Detroit.

Since signing with the Falcons as an unrestricted free agent in 2007 the team’s running game lead by Michael Turner has been able to post multiple 1000 yard seasons including 1,699 yards in 2008 and 1,371 yards last season. Turner is currently on pace for 1,408 yards this season but without Ovie the Falcons’ run game is sure to suffer.

Mughelli, who was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2003 ends his season with just two carries for one yard, and four receptions for 25 yards and two touchdowns.

To replace the All-Pro FB the Falcons have signed former Ga Tech FB Mike Cox.
