There are some times when you simply need a bit of comfort food, and shepherd’s pie is up there on the list of favorites for many people. It’s hearty, savory and warm, the perfect end to a long, cold winter’s day. It can be found on the menu at most of Atlanta’s Irish pubs. We’ve selected a few of our favorite restaurants to find this filling dish — let us know if your top spots made the list!
Meehan’s Public House
227 Sandy Springs Place N.E.
Atlanta, GA 30328
(404) 843-8058
www.meehanssandysprings.com

Meehan’s Pub is one of the go-to spots for Irish fare in Atlanta, and there are five locations around the city. Their shepherd’s pie features a Guinness braised leg of lamb along with veggies, red wine gravy, and, of course, a mashed potato jacket. At $15.25, it’s reasonably priced as well. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and outdoor seating at the Sandy Springs location.

Mac McGee Pub
936 Canton St.
Roswell, GA 30076
(770) 518-2866

Historic Roswell is a charming part of town if you are looking for a great spot for a family dinner. Expect your standard Irish pub fare including, naturally, a shepherd’s pie that is full and hearty. If you’re in search of a quieter night out, head here during the week, as it can get rowdy on the weekends with a college crowd. In warmer weather, get there early to snag a table outside.

Olde Blind Dog Irish Pub
705 Town Blvd.
Atlanta, GA 30319
(404) 816-5739
www.oldeblinddog.com

The Olde Blind Dog bills its shepherd’s pie as “Not your great-great-great grandmother’s Old World recipe.” It also promises that this is “the best shepherd’s pie you never had but always wanted.” With claims like that, it had better be great, right? Stop by the pub on the 17th of any month, as that is “St. Practice Day,” where the pub prepares for the big party in March with live music and giveaways.

The Bat And Ball Pub
2150 B Johnson Ferry Road
Atlanta, GA 30319
(770) 986-0410

So, The Bat and Ball isn’t anything fancy, and, yeah, it’s located in a strip mall. But if you’re in Brookhaven and craving some pub fare, this is a great little spot. Their shepherd’s pie features New Zealand lamb, veggies and a topper of mashed potatoes for $14. You’re likely to meet some friendly neighborhood folks if you head here for your full flavor fare.

The Marlay House
426 W. Ponce De Leon Ave.
Decatur, GA 30030
(404) 270-9950
www.themarlayhouse.com

Decatur is a great part of town for most types of cuisines, so of course there is a yummy Irish pub. The Marlay House serves up a shepherd’s pie with beef, peas, carrots, onions and a cheddar mash. So it’s slightly different than the lamb version offered at most pubs. At $10, it’s one of the best bargains on the list, especially considering the neighborhood.
