Take a look at the calendar. Winter is flying by. For hardcore runners, it doesn’t matter what time of the year it is. For the seasonal runner, spring is right around the corner and it might be time to join one of the great running clubs in the metro Atlanta area.
Atlanta Track Club
3097 E. Shadowlawn Ave.
Atlanta, GA 30305
One of the oldest track clubs in the South, the Atlanta Track Club was founded back in 1964. It’s a very active running club as the members spend time and money promoting fitness and exercise through various programs. They promote roadracing, cross-country and track and field to all age groups. The ATC is best known for putting on the world-famous Peachtree Road Race and the Atlanta Marathon and Half Marathon. Different membership levels are available from $35 to $60. It’s money well spent for the serious runner.
If you are serious about running in the Peachtree City area of Atlanta, the Peachtree City Running Club welcomes you. Founded in 1981 by a group of serious runners, the PCRC puts on the Peachtree Classic 15K and 5K each October. This running club is all about family and fun. Memberships start at $20 and a family membership can be had for $25. This is a great club and a great deal.
If you live in Gainesville or anywhere in Hall County and are a serious runner, you need to check out the Lanier Running Club. Formed back in 1985, the LRC has a growing membership that boasts runners from sub-elite all the way down to beginners and recreational. It puts on several runs each year and has a great website with a ton of running information. More than running, this club is very social and the members are very friendly. Membership levels start at $10 for students and go to $20 for individuals and $30 for families. Remember, the family that runs together, stays together.
South Fulton Running Partners
What a great organization. This is the “oldest black recreational running club in the US.” Founded back in 1979, SFRP has a mission to promote fitness, fellowship and fun. It holds one of the best races, the Sickle Cell Road Race, each year. This not-for-profit organization encourages runs every Saturday morning and spends a great deal of time educating the general public about running.
Meeting every Tuesday and Thursday, “Spikes” welcomes runners of all levels. Located in North Fulton County, the Spikes Running Club is convenient to those in Alpharetta, Woodstock, Sandy Springs, Milton and John’s Creek. The more avid runners will offer great advice for up-and-coming road, track and cross-country runners. Contact Beth for more information on membership and events at firstname.lastname@example.org.
