Atlanta is a foodie’s town, and it seems like there is a Mexican restaurant on nearly every corner. It can be difficult to choose which spot to meet up with your friends on Cinco de Mayo precisely because there are so many options. We’ve chosen a few of our favorites. Wherever you go, be prepared for a festive, rowdy crowd and call a car service to get you home safely.
800 Peachtree St. N.E.
Atlanta, GA 30308
Escorpion is a great choice for a quick and tasty meal before a performance at the Fox Theater, since it is located only a few blocks away. It has all of your standard Mexican favorites, with a bit of a local twist. The Peachtree Street location is also known for its selection of tequilas, so expect a sombrero-wearing crowd on Cinco de Mayo. It’s convenient for meeting friends after work in Midtown.
Cantina Taqueria and Tequila Bar
3280 Peachtree Road N.E., Suite 150
Atlanta, GA 30305
Cantina is one of the restaurants run by Atlanta’s Here to Serve group, also responsible for local favorites like Twist and Shout, so you know the food will be reliably tasty. You’ll want to get here early on Cinco de Mayo to reserve your table outside and enjoy the weather with your tequila and chips. If you just want a pleasant, happy place to meet your crew and down a few tacos, this is a great choice. Expect a crowd, given the location.
1314 Glenwood Ave.
East Atlanta, GA 30316
Holy Taco is known for its friendly atmosphere, so if you’re looking to make some new friends this Cinco de Mayo, this might be the spot for you. You’ll find some interesting and different taco ingredients here, like beef tongue and chicken hearts. It may be a bit more adventurous than your usual spot, but it’s a holiday, right? It’s also a little more pricey than the typical taco joint, so be ready to buck up.
Taqueria del Sol
2165 Cheshire Bridge Road
Atlanta, GA 30324
Arrive early because Taqueria del Sol is packed on any average evening, but this is a great place to spend Cinco de Mayo. It is trendy, fun and a definite crowd-pleaser. Don’t expect to kick back and relax, but if you want an energetic evening with great drinks, this is a good choice. It’s also near Atlanta’s favorite bowling alley, if you want to keep the party going after dinner.
La Fonda Latina
923 Ponce De Leon Ave.
Atlanta, GA 30306
You may tend to ignore La Fonda in favor of its popular pizza companion restaurant, Fellini’s, but if you do, you’re missing out on some of Atlanta’s tastiest Mexican fare. The restaurant is casual and comfortable, and the food is exactly what you’re looking for on Cinco de Mayo – cheesy, gooey and inexpensive. Grab a booth with a group or with your sweetheart and settle in for a festive meal.
