Tanglewood Farm bills itself as the “Town of Miniature Farm Animals,” so that gives you some idea of what to expect. It is right at the foot of the North Georgia mountains, in Cherokee County, which provides a lovely backdrop and a great day trip from Atlanta. There are more than 100 miniature farm animals on display, making this a great place for really small children to get used to animals. The farm has special offers for school field trips or children’s birthday parties.
If you want the petting zoo to come to you, then the Little Red Barn is your best option. It will bring animals to your home for the perfect children’s birthday party. Of course, there are ponies available for rides, but there are also peacocks, donkeys, goats, sheep, alpacas and other animals. Little Red Barn focuses on miniature farm animals.

Of course, the main zoo in Atlanta is Zoo Atlanta, located in the middle of town in Grant Park. This is the most convenient zoo for Atlanta residents, accessible by bus from the Civic Center MARTA station. There is a petting zoo on site open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Your kids will love this chance to get to know some of the zoo’s gentler animals while they see the larger creatures on site.
